Yuyuan Garden Shanghai
Yuyuan Garden is a main stop on every
city sightseeing tour in Shanghai. Yuyuan Garden was
created in 1559 by the wealthy official
Pan Yunduan.
It took
about 20 years to finish this marvelous
landscaping art and after it was
reported Pan Yunduan
had no money left.
The gardens name Yuyuan come from 'yu',
it means 'peace and health' in Chinese.
After Pan Yunduan died the whole garden
slowly slid into bad conditions. It took
400 years
until 1956, when the Shanghai city government made
the bold decision to restore the garden to its old
grandeur, the public had to wait until 1961 to visit
the place again.
The
Yuyuan Garden´s area is about two hectares (5 acres)
and is created in South China's
Suzhou gardens
landscape design according to parameters
implemented first during the Ming and
Qing dynasties |

Center of Yuyuan Garden,
Shanghai
About 40 scenic spots are distributed over six major
parts of the yuyuan garden. The six parts are the
Hall of Heralding Spring, Grand Rockery, the Ten
Thousand-Flower Pavilion, the Hall of Jade
Magnificence, the Lotus Pool and the Inner Garden.
